Charlotte
Therapy Assistant
About Me
Hi my name is Charlotte! I was born in New Zealand and lived there until I was 8 before starting our life in Perth. My parents are South African, I do carry the specific cultural values (importance of family, respecting others- to name a few). I am currently studying a bachelor of Psychology and Counselling at ECU, my future goal is to become a school counsellor. I have also completed a Cert 3 in Allied Health Assistance as a therapy assistant, where I learnt many skills that OT and Physios have for example, how to implement programs, facilitate group activities, and what person centred care means.
What are some of my strengths and hobbies?
Some of my hobbies are: baking, cooking, crafting, scrapbooking, spending time at the beach, swimming, board games. I tend to look for the positives in situations, I find myself to be very empathetic and caring. I work well with others and I am always willing/wanting to learn more to develop my skills. I am hard working, a fast learner and a good listener.
What do I enjoy learning about?
I enjoy learning about people and their minds, I like to understand different perspectives and complexities of human behaviour. I think mental health is extremely important and largely an essential aspect to someone’s wellbeing. I enjoy understanding why things happen and why things are the way they are.
Why do I like supporting children with an autism diagnosis and their families?
The job role is very rewarding, I enjoy doing something meaningful. Supporting others, specifically with Autism is actually quite empowering, the children are so intelligent and brave. I also appreciate being able to utilise what I learn at university as a psychology student and be able to put these skills and characteristics into practice (for example, how to properly reassure someone of something).
