Millie
Support Worker
About Me
Hi! I'm Millie and I'm 21. I am originally from a small town in the North-east of England, but I've been living in Perth since 2013. I have two gorgeous Labradoodle doggies named Alfie and Posie. After finishing high school, I completed a certificate in mental health studies, which is where I first got involved in disability support. A few of my friends were studying teaching at the time, which sparked my interest in working in education too. That led me to train in school-based education support at TAFE. While studying, I’ve been lucky enough to work as an Education Assistant at a secondary school, where I have supported students with Autism in their learning.
What are some of my strengths and hobbies?
I am a creative person who loves anything art and music! I enjoy painting, drawing and colouring in my spare time. Recently I have dabbled in paper mache which was quite messy but surprisingly very therapeutic! I also enjoy going to the gym and running, singing and writing my own songs on the guitar. I’m into makeup and shopping too! My strengths are having a friendly and calm nature. I am an active listener, which helps me really understand the interests and needs of each child and their family.
What do I enjoy learning about?
I’ve always been interested in mental health and wellbeing, especially the different ways we can support people experiencing mental health challenges or living with disabilities. It’s something I’d love to study more in the future, possibly by continuing my education in school-based support. I’ve also always had a fascination with dreams, ever since I was little and started having vivid ones. I enjoy learning about how dreams work, and what shapes the things we dream about. My curiosity about human behaviour grew from my mental health studies. I find it so interesting how we all think, express ourselves, and experience the world in our own unique way.
Why do I like supporting children with an autism diagnosis and their families?
When I first started supporting children with Autism, I knew I’d found my calling. I’m passionate about helping kids build confidence and independence, and it’s incredibly rewarding to see them reach their goals and feel a true sense of joy and belonging. As a support worker, creating a safe space where a child can flourish is something truly special to me. I also understand how important it is to support their families, being someone they can trust and rely on really matters.
