What we are aiming at

We build this site to meet the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.2 at Level AA. That is the standard Australian government bodies work to, and it is the one we hold ourselves to.

What that means in practice

Every page works with a keyboard alone, with a visible focus outline on whatever you are on.
Text contrast meets or exceeds the 4.5:1 minimum, and larger text 3:1. We check every page rather than assuming.
Every meaningful image has alternative text. Decorative shapes are hidden from screen readers.
Nothing on the site relies on colour alone to carry meaning — every status has words as well.
Nothing flashes. Nothing autoplays. There are no carousels and no pop-ups.
Headings are in a real, nested order, so screen reader users can navigate by structure.
The site works at phone width without horizontal scrolling, and text can be enlarged without the layout breaking.

Simple view

Every page carries a Simple view button in the bar at the top. Turning it on stops all animation, increases the text size and line spacing, puts everything in a single column, and hides decorative imagery.

Your choice is remembered on that device, and Simple view is never switched on without you asking for it. Separately, if your browser or operating system is set to reduce motion, we honour that on every page — nothing fades, slides or rotates by itself, whether or not you use Simple view.

What is not right yet

We would rather tell you than let you find out.

Our referral form is hosted by a third party, ShiftCare, and embedded in the Get started page. We do not control its accessibility. If it does not work for you, email or phone us and we will take the referral that way instead — you will not be disadvantaged.
Our downloadable PDFs are tagged and readable, but they are designed to be printed and written on. If you need one in a different format, ask and we will make it.
We have tested with keyboard navigation and automated contrast checking. We have not yet run a full audit with a range of assistive technology users. That is on our list.

Ask us for another format

Anything we publish, we will provide another way. Large print, plain text, Easy Read, a phone call where someone reads it to you, or a printed copy in the post. Email admin@actforautism.com.au and tell us what works for you. There is no charge.

Tell us about a barrier

If any part of this site does not work for you, we want to know — even if you are not sure whose fault it is. Email admin@actforautism.com.au with what you were trying to do, what happened, and what you were using. We will acknowledge within two business days and tell you what we are going to do.

If you are not satisfied with how we respond, our complaints process applies, and you can take a disability discrimination complaint to the Australian Human Rights Commission.
