Why we do this
ACT for Autism Australia began in 2021 with a simple belief: autistic people and their families deserve support from people who genuinely understand.
Care first
Every autistic person is different, and so is every family. We listen before we plan. We build support around what a person already loves, how they communicate, and what matters to them — not around a template.
Lived experience
Many of our team are neurodivergent themselves, or are parents and family members of autistic people. That lived experience shapes how we work. We know what it is like to be misunderstood, to wait, and to fight for the right support — and we bring that understanding into every home, classroom and meeting we walk into.
Inclusion for everyone
No part of the autism community is left out here. Whether someone needs a little support or a great deal, speaks or doesn't, is a young child or an adult, they are welcome. We do not choose between the people who are easiest to support and those who are not, and we will not speak for one part of the community at the expense of another.
An inclusive employer
We try to be the kind of workplace we would want for the people we support: flexible, honest, and willing to make the same adjustments we ask schools and workplaces to make. Neurodivergent people are welcome on our team, and valued for the insight they bring.
What ACT stands for
Our name is our work: Advocacy, Consultancy and Training. We speak up alongside autistic people and their families, we share what we know with the people around them, and we help others to do the same.
